David Minton

I was born in Ipswich England on 3rd March 1946.I have spent the past 35 years teaching Art in a Kent Comprehensive School.

The subject-matter - dead and dying flowers has a strongly autobiographical element!! There is no structured intellectual underpinning. I like the physicality of working. The flowers have potential for sentimentality which I resist in the making. Their potential prettiness lives with possible threat. I feel closer to Morandi and Matisse than to Duchamp. The work has been produced over the past few years. I lose track of precise dates. they are not important. Similarly I do not have meaningful titles. I do the work and hope for an outcome which satisfies and perhaps moves me on.
